54 Music presents ‘THE LIGHT RESIDENTS’
With the very best in the business right under our roof, we have found it easy to resist drafting in a headliner for this next party, instead providing the ear stimulus from the light side of the label will be 54 Music’s very own pioneers of the nu-skool.
As with all 54 Music parties the emphasis surrounds the music, and with each artist being respected music producers and players there can only be one result when attending, damn deep house vibes, throbbing basslines with a whole lot of you in between.
Matt Masters and MrCenzo head the bill under their MidiDropMusic guise, and after blowing us away on their debut, we have come to expect nothing less than musical genius from this London duo. MidiDropMusic have been working together for a little while now and are having good success with their first 3 EP’s on Guess (Reached number 1 on the Juno Deep House Chart), Glideslope (Reached number 3 on the Beatport Deep House chart), Nacho Marco’s Loudeast & their 4th and 5th upcoming EP's on 54 music alongside Sebastian Davidson and Acryl music. Both MrCenzo and Matt Masters are successful DJ’s who were introduced through a mutual friend. Matt is part of the Freerange Records team and has already remixed the likes of Dirty Vegas, Jimpster, Brett Johnson, Harold Heath, Corregated Tunnel, Timo Garcia, Pezzner, Steve Mill and Nacho Marco while
MrCenzo is currently working on his solo productions for various other labels including Guess, Glideslope, Deepology, Dutchie, Blacksoul, Plastic City & TroubleKids. Their focus on the deeper side of the house spectrum has influenced tracks planned for their forthcoming Eps in addition to the numourous remixes they have recently released on Glideslope, Dutchie, TroubleKids, 303 Lovers, Brown Eyed Boyz, Jay J’s Shifted Music, Plastic City, Tricircle & Adjust. Now they have their sound they have started their DJ partnership and have played alongside the likes of Paul Woolford, Milton Jackson, Sebastian Davidson and Daniel Kyo.
Fresh out of the wrapper and making their 54 Music debuts are two acts that are not shy to the deep house circuit. Playing at London’s most prestigious clubs and brands, Jafar from Poussez and Nick Dare are no strangers to creating hysteria from behind the decks, giving the people fresh gems each and every week is what gives these boys their well-deserved reputation.
A DJ for over 15 years and former winner of Musik Magazine's prestigious 'Bedroom Bedlam'(2000), Jafar rose to fame on the UK techno circuit opening for the likes of Carl Cox, Sven Vath and Billy Nasty, at seminal nights like 'Final Frontier' and 'Eurobeat 2000'. DJ Mag hailed him as 'The Rising Star of Deep House' (2004), a reputation he has gone onto firmly cement, via a relentless flow of international gigs, remixes and releases on respected underground imprints including Loud East, Universal Vibes, Huddtraxx, Blacksoul, Berwick Street and of course Artizan Music.
With his and Maxime's first Poussez Album dropping in 2009/10, their label and 'Uptownboogiedown' parties ever on the up, a recent publishing deal and a steady flow of new releases and gigs month on month, Jafar continues to be a veritable Tour de force in the music field.
Nick Dare first hit the decks in the early 90’s playing underground parties and club nights before becoming a regular at one of London’s post Acid House clubs, Juicy Fruit at Ormonds. Cutting his DJing teeth along side the likes of Rocky & Diesel (X-Press 2), Terry Farley & Nancy Noise, Nick soon went on to appear as a regular guest and resident at some of UK’s best clubs.
In 2001 Nick launched Reform Recordings, a label renowned for pushing quality underground house, achieving worldwide sales in vinyl and digital format and regularly featuring in the review pages of DJ, IDJ, DMC, Update, M8, TTR, Resident Advisor and 365 Mag. Reform has also received Club and Radio support from DJ’s and producers such as X-Press 2, Tom Stephan, John Digweed, Rui Da Silva, Paul Woolford and Meat Katie. The label has mainly featured Nick’s own productions recording under the names of Nick Dare, Overdrive and Liquid Dreams.
Nick is now producing tracks exclusively for license and has releases and remixes on Lost My Dog, Tango, Detour and Wiggle which are reciving support from the likes of Darren Emerson, Laurent Garnier, MANDY, DJ Hipp-E, Onionz, Inland Knights & Lawnchair Generals. In addition to his productions, with over 15 years DJ experience and an innate ability to read the crowd, Nick’s DJ sets are highly sought after and encompass a sublime mix of Jacking und house and tech grooves. His skills have seen him play all over the UK with recent highlights including Fabric, East Village, Kerfuffle and Ministry Of Sound as well as dates in Europe.
Bringing up the musical rear are newly established Foolish Horse who have already penciled in a three track E.P with 54 Music, been remixed by Kris Wadsworth and are enjoying success with their remix of Sebastian Davidson’s ‘Kwango’ which was released last month on 54 Music. This pair are one to watch, so watch out.
