54 >You have a musical history with a classical backing having learnt piano & percussion. When did you first make the shift to electronic music and who were your early influences?
S >So, I discovered electronic music in My island “Reunion” in the end of the 90’s, around 98, where we use to make raves In the forest or on the beach, and lots of DJ’s were playing all different styles, from deep house, to hard techno/hardcore, trance or drum ‘n bass. That was a eclectic discovery of this music through all this. Then I move to Paris in 2000, where I discover the new moder deep minimal, with all the Perlon stuff from Zip, Pantytec, Baby Ford, Ricardo Villalobos, Ben Neville to the French scene, with the locals from the capital, Cabanne, Krikor, Ark, Bradock, Noze,…the Karat/karapult crew, they were all my early influences in this new music and brought me into production.

54 >Freak ‘n’ Chic is very much a close family and this concept is something we admire a lot. How did you meet the guys?
S> I already know some of them through parties in Paris, but I officially met them almost 2 years ago, when they were interest to work with me artistically, then after some nights and afterhours, I get into the family, where I feel really at ease, the team is solid and diverse, everyone bring his own things, that make sense.

54 >How is the dance music scene in Paris at the minute?
NO comment…I hope for a better time.
S >Any advice to new artists with dreams of Dj’ing and producing?
Use Hardware, synths, real instruments, every thing is raw.

54 >Are you an advocate of hardware in the studio or is it just you and your computer?
S > I’m still working to find a good sound, but I have worked with bunch of hardware for quite a while now.
Have some BAR, tr 909, Jomox 888, Sh 101, some modular synths,…

54 > Can you explain to us a little more about Eklo?
S >Eklo is my own label, I take care of it by myself, alone, so I don’t have to make any compromises. I just release what I like, nothing in a trend, just some modern techno/house, where all the artists are almost all friends, I’m happy to work in that way.

54 > What can we expect to see from Eklo in the near future?
S >Great music, I hope. For 2010, in the beginning, we’ll release the 3rd part of the hooksey series feat. Baaz, Agnès, Ryan Crosson and Le Loup, then Eklo 014, an amazing piece of music from Kate Simko, with 2 tracks and a stump dOP remix.
Then in February, first artist ep on Eklo from Yakine, my close friend who gave me really special and weird music , perfect for Eklo quite different from his past stuff.

54> Personally what releases do you have forthcoming over the next few months?
S > I didn’t plan to many things because I’m gonna release in the first quarter of 2010 my first album on the Masomenos album label, it will be mixed. A solo ep on Eklo, and I have others to make for the labels friends, I made lots of new things, but different, so don’t know yet where everythings gonna be release, we’ll see .. ?

54 > What are your 3 biggest tracks of the last year?
S > Levon Vincent – Polar bear make nice with the sea lion – Deconstruct
Ben Klock – Grip – Ostgut Ton
Omar S – Flying Blind / Flying Gorgars - Fxhe

54 > Which artists do you expect to blow big up in 2010?
S > Nina Kraviz, Lazar, Luther, Steffi, Bijou, Boris Horel.

54 > Who for you is the best remixer at the moment and why?
S > Motor city Drum Ensemble or Levon Vincent, because they both make really interesting and such great music at the moment, I would add Ben Klock and Trus’me to this list.

54 > What was the craziest party you played over the last year?
S > A Freak n Chic showcase in London @ Mullet Over party in the carpark, I was playing my live set, was great, really weird place, but we got great vibe from the crowd, was a great night.

54> Are there any funny stories from recent gigs?
S> A party in Canarias Island on a pirate boat, no little boat that brought me back from the big one, then a jet sky ride with shoes, bag with computer, machines, and blah blah , was a crazy time.

54 > Recent debaters claim that soon music will be free. What are your thoughts on this?
S > Food too…

54> Thank you very much, we look orward to seeing you on NYD at Bar 54 for the Freak ‘n’ Chic Showcase.
